Debut full length for SNAKES ALIVE, and second release for Sentient Recordings. Taking a huge step forward from the split LP with Wire Werewolves, the Snakes take their brand of powerful, heavy rock into amazing new levels by writing catchy, well crafted songs without compromising their unique and original musical vision. The combination of psychedelic textures and eyeball scorching artwork from the late great Daniel Kraus, make it as weird as it is heavy. Melting your mind, and your face.

"I first heard Snakes Alive on a split 12" that they appeared on alongside black noise weirdos Wire Werewolves, and this debut full length from the band (released on the label run by Jay Howard from Bacteria Cult/Wire Werewolves) is more of that weird, blackened sludgy rock. The band's music is mostly mid-paced, thunderous heaviness, a grungy mash of blackened thrashiness, catchy and crushing sludgy rock a la Helms Alee or Floor, and pummeling battle riffage that's influenced by High On Fire, combined with screaming electronic effects, trippy backing keyboards, a big dose of Hawkwind-on-meth FX fuckery thrown into the mix. Their vocals are a mix of scorching black metal-like shrieks and melodic roar, and you get some seriously dramatic and hooky songs here, tracks like "Dum Dum Is The Queen", "Fog Tiger", "Treep" and "Blackbird" battering their way through the punky, sludge-covered blackened rock and occasionally tearing into full-on blasting and thrash riffs. "Twisted Mind Of I" sticks out with it's trance inducing circular riffing and slow pounding tribal like drumming and swirling spacey fx, like a krautrock jam gone sludgy space rock, until it switches over to a crushing doom-laden boogie, while "Camden" is a dead ringer for High On Fire. And if you stick around for the track at the very end after a long stretch of silence, there's a disturbing noisescape of layered and processed voices, chirping birds, snatches of distorted guitar, and rumbling distortion that goes on for over five minutes. They've got a weird mix of sounds going on here for sure, and it kind of reminds me of some of the oddball black metal/garage sludge stuff that has come out on Rusty Axe in the past, sort of like what Nirvana's Bleach could have sounded like if it had actually been played by a bunch of corpse painted teenage creeps in the woods of Norway." - Crucial Blast
